The Fall season is the perfect time to harvest the things that give us the feeling of gratefulness. We will make a strand of 10 semi-precious 8mm beads embellished with charms. The beads are strung so that they slip along the string to keep your place. We will begin with a brief history of how beads are used for spiritual purposes in 2/3 of the world’s faiths and study beads from many cultures around the world.
Meet Your Instructor: Sue Swanson, MDiv, is a teaching artist and retreat leader who helps people find Sabbath time in their busy lives by teaching them how to practice spiritual patterns together.
She calls her work Prayercraft, which uses art as a gateway to healing and wholeness. She is interested in how we can learn to use artistic creativity both individually and in a group to express our spirituality. Sue teaches classes and retreats exploring prayer, breath, simplicity, creativity, and Sabbath. Her company, Purple Apple Arts, provides opportunities to explore traditional crafts including textile arts, drawing, beadwork, and labyrinth walking. She studies traditional craft techniques to make them meaningful in our 21st-century lives. Her beadwork has been published in Beadwork Magazine and Bead and Button Magazine.
Sue holds a BA degree in Professional Communications from Metropolitan State University and a Master of Divinity degree from United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities. She is a certified Veridatas Labyrinth facilitator trained under Dr. Lauren Artess.
Sue lives in Woodbury, Minnesota with her husband Roger. They have two sons, Jeremy and Matthew.
